Holy frick, it’s December?!

1 Dec

A whole lot of nothing going on here.

I’ve decided I don’t like have Thanksgiving so late in the month.  December totally sneaks up on you.

Had a lovely Thanksgiving, by the way.  Thanks to Madhousewife for gracing us with her presence and the presences of her children and heck, even her spouse!

So last week I started categorizing my posts.  Just for the hey of it.  I know you’re all uberly excited to have all my crazy right there waiting for you at the click of a mouse.  I found I had some difficulty coming up with clever categories, so I’m not so sure how long some of those will be around.  And so far I only got through July, I think.  Who knew adding category tags to 200+ blog posts was several hours worth of labor?  I don’t usually do the whole several hours worth of labor thing, so it has gone the way of all started projects around here, which is to say it’s an unfinished project.  I do have plans to finish it, though.  Big plans, people.

Along with the categorizing, I thought it would be fun to have a couple of fan favorites on my sidebar.  So for the twelve of you who read Bythelbs, do you have a favorite post?  Or perhaps you might have alternative titles for some of my categories?  If I choose one of your suggestions, there may be something in it for you.  Maybe I could name it after you?  Like they do at those delis with the celebrity sandwich names?  If you were a sandwich, what kind would you be?

Today I ripped the nail off my left pinky finger.  Down to the quick, people!  To the quick!  There was some bleeding.  And now my finger feels all weird and oogy.  And numb.  What’s with the numbness?  I do have a band-aid on there, but it’s not tight or anything.  There should be no circulation issues.  But it’s numb and kind of weirding me out.  Can you do nerve damage to your phalanges with a ripped nail?  Ooh, I’m still shuddering with the memory.  Can you get PTSD from a ripped nail?  Maybe the better question is “Can I get PTSD from a ripped nail?”  I’m thinking yes.

How was your weekend?

I’m sorry about your oogy-nail-trauma! I hate those injuries that should be small but that ruin your day (or two. or three.)

My weekend was great, thank you!

and I just love the word Frick. I blame Elliot from Scrubs.

    Finally! Postage!

(By postage, I mean “a post.” Not stamps.)

I love your category titles. Can you name my categories? Of course that will entail hours of me reassigning all my posts, but hey, it’s not like I’m busy with anything else, you know?

I think my favorite post of all time might be “I Fought the Crazy and the Crazy Won.” See, I even remembered the title thereof. That’s how many flavors of awesome it was. The others I would just have to look up. Maybe I will peruse your categories.

P.S. Sorry about your nail. I hate when nails get ripped. Especially to the quick–that is harsh.

I always get numbness when I put bandaids on my phalanges. So it’s not just you. Maybe it’s genetic.

Wow. You went ricter on the categories. Good job. I have like, three. Music, photography, and driving driving driving.

  5. cornnut32 December 1, 2008 at 5:08 pm #

categorizing, huh? i think i’d need a new category for every fricking post. (teehee)

i really enjoy your wacky search terms posts, actually.

if i were a sandwich, i would definitely be one of those yummy fresh deli turkey and avocado sammiches on a croissant. with a dill pickle spear on the side. i think i might go get one of those now.

anything and everything chuck norris related!

Ouch on the nail! I’m always in awe that something so little can cause so much pain.

My weekend was busy but fun!

Favorite post? I’m torn. I love Mr. T’s James Bond/narrated life stories. But I also loved the drawings your kids did in church and “Let him eat cookies (hands off the $*%! cake!)” Your random snips of dialogue from your kids is probably top of my list. My boss totally got a kick out of the whole “Because hobos are cool!” thing.

Ooh! and the misdirected emails. My friend says that Reg’s “3-10 cases for personal use” are probably for his own personal use, and nobody else can have them. I DON’T HAVE A SQUARE TO SPARE!

shaz—Glad you had a great weekend! And I love it when Eliot says “Frick!”

mad—I’m thinking “I fought the crazy” may be the post that goes down in infamy around her. Genetic bandaged phalange numbness, eh? Sounds about right.

cornnut32—I have a similar problem. Hence the 32 categories for a blog that only has about 218 posts! I like to be specific. Apparently.

diana—A fellow Chuck lover! I knew I liked you.

flip—Exactly–the pain should be proportionate to the wound, no?

foof—So are you trying to say my kids are more amusing than me? That’s fair. And “I don’t have a square to spare!”—ha! Did I ever tell you my real life “I don’t have a square to spare!” experience?

I’m with mad; my fave was the Crazy winning one. That’s when I knew you and I were destined to continue to be friends. Since we already were friends. Yeah.

    Ahem.
You know, I tried once to do the categories and now after 655 posts, I’ve realized the effort is futile. Completely futile. My posts will never be categorized and my poor readers will be forever in ignorance at all the gems I have archived. Le sigh.

Put your finger in a large bandage; preferrably white and long and clean. Then soak it in novacaine. That will keep it from hurting! Okay, I’m totally kidding and making this up as I go…

  12. foofer December 2, 2008 at 8:15 am #

Okay, you have to share your “I don’t have a square to spare!” experience. I’m dying of curiosity. Well, not really. But I do love a good “life imitates Seinfeld” story.

  13. bythelbs December 2, 2008 at 8:33 am #

Susan—Somehow I snubbed you in my last reply! I love the simplicity of your categories.

cheryl—No, no more numbness! The numbness is freaking me out! And I’m grateful my crazy was so appealing to you.

foof—OK, maybe I’ll have to send you an e-mail.

  14. JustRandi December 2, 2008 at 9:09 am #

Ok, I’m cringing just thinking about your fingernail. And The bandaid doesn’t really help that icky I-just-ripped-my-nail-off feeling. But it’s all you can do, right?

  15. Julie December 2, 2008 at 10:38 am #

I want to say something clever here, but am all out of clever.

Your categories are excellent — in need of very little cowbell.

Did I tell you I saw a billboard coming home one day that said “Jobs with More Cowbell” — I was so mad I didn’t have my camera. It was hilarious. Like you.

    Merry Christmas.

I’m not great at catagory names. I always really like your sister’s “those wacky mormons” and I kind of want to steal it. but I haven’t. Yet.

  18. bythelbs December 2, 2008 at 4:48 pm #

JustRandi—Exactly. And I’ve had the bandaid off for several hours now, but it still feels odd. *shudder*

Julie—So. much. awesomeness. I’ve already tried it. I may even have to do an entire post on it. Dedicated to you, of course.

Alison—I think I’ve somehow managed to not have any wacky mormon posts on my blog. I’m not sure how.

Oh, my holy heck, I can’t believe I forgot to comment on this one. Sheesh. My brain is on the fritz…

I HAVE, however, been reminiscing about favorite posts, and have decided it is FAR too much to ask of us to come up with ONE favorite. Hmph.

    😉

  20. thewoobdog December 3, 2008 at 7:30 am #

I have a small list of personal favorites, culled from browsing “Fruit of My Womb”, since the kids’ comments crack me up…

    Conversational Odds & Ends
    Fruit of My Womb
My Kids Are Weird – Mr. T’s kidney-selling aspirations still make me laugh

and My Not So Little Bundle of Joy was a great post

and my favorite segment of all time, which would make me spew milk out my nose if I were drinking it despite the fact that nothing has ever made me spew anything out my nose – at the end of the Invisible Woman post:

“And on an unrelated note, here’s proof that Madhousewife is raising her kids right. When I asked my 5 year old nephew if I could look at his hot dogs, he gave me the most bewildered look and then ran away in the opposite direction. Perfect response.”

My all-time favorite is the same as mad’s . . . I love, link to, refer to, think about, talk about that post often. It’s THE post that made me know I liked you and got me totally hooked on your blog from that point forward.

My husband, who occasionally looks at your blog through links I send him, says he likes the Chuck Norris posts.

Oooh, oooh, the burning sensation one, too. I like that one.

Hey! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any trouble with hackers?
My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up
losing months of hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any solutions to prevent hackers?

Hi to all, how is everything, I think every one is
getting more from this website, and your views are good in support
    of new users.
