Summer playlist

8 Jun

Chuck recently put a new mix CD in the car, which included quite a few new-to-me songs that I think are pretty fun and perfect for summer.

Dominos – The Big Pink

The first few times I heard this one, I thought he was saying “These guns fall like dominos,” which would be an entirely different song.

1901 – Phoenix

See?  Fun, right?

Sweet Disposition – The Temper Trap

I keep trying to figure out who this reminds me of…

Mountain Man – Crash Kings

For some reason I really love this one.

I came across this next group sometime last year while I was browsing youtube for something else, and then I promptly forgot their name and spent quite a few months trying to find them again.

When Did Your Heart Go Missing – Rooney

I think this one is a couple or so years old.  Anyone familiar with Rooney?  What else is good?  (Does anyone else find this video a little creepy?  Or maybe a lot creepy?)

Last month we saw Paramore (I keep meaning to blog about it—maybe I’ll get to it one of these days), and they were fantastic.  They had a couple of pretty good opening bands, too, including fun. and Relient K.

All the Pretty Girls – fun.

(If you use the link to the official video, you’ll see skinny jeans are not the most attractive look for the lead singer.)

I also really like I Wanna Be the One.  Another really fun one by fun..

Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been – Relient K

Relient K is a Christian rock band, so a lot of their songs have messages along those lines.  They have a lot of happy, upbeat stuff that’s just kind of fun to sing along with.

What’s on your summer playlist?

Just looked them up on youtube. Totally up my alley—thanks! And they have a girl drummer, which is awesome.

So love Neon Trees. My 13 yo liked them until he saw them on Leno and now he LOVES them. The girl from Paramore has almost been replaced now.

Love the Big Pink; I’ve been listening to them a lot lately. Don’t know Phoenix but I’ll be checking them out, along with Crash Kings.

I have a whole mixed cd of new-to-me stuff in my car right now but I’m blanking on all the band names because I’m at work…. I’ll check and post again later.

You mean besides the doom metal song Elijah wrote for me? The National’s new album; the new Black Keys; my email mp3 mixes.

So, Chuck’s taste in music is as awesome as his taste in women! (or woman, to be more precise) 😉

Ok. I’m back with more than 2.2 seconds! I LOVE that Rooney song. One of my favorites. I LOVE Phoenix. I’m kinda digging Cameron Rafati lately. And the new A Fine Frenzy. Which is WAY more manic than her last album. Also loving The Dead Weather lately. And Manchester Orchestra.

Oh, I like Black Keys too. Here’s my list: the Isles (remind me of the Smiths), Delorian, Confuse the Cat, Editors and of course always Shout Out Louds, French Kicks and Snowden.

Shaz—I haven’t heard of any of those except Editors. Thanks for the list–I’m excited to check out the new stuff!

Susan—Yay, more new stuff to check out! Plus those mp3 mixes are a given. So awesome. What’s the theme for the next one?

Mother—Thanks! For the compliment and that little qualification at the end! 😉

Tawnya—That other Rooney video is creepy, though, right? Singing to the little girl in her bedroom?? Have not heard of those other groups, so MORE stuff to check out!

Yes…creepy. But I think a lot of videos are creepy! Maybe I should do a post about the creepy videos I encounter while searching for my daily youtubes…

    Here’s PZ’s new favorite bands:

    Tokio Hotel

And the hubby and I can’t stop listening to this song:

    Carl Sagan

Also love Sweet Disposition – my favorite song at the moment. Also, I realize I am going outside the general category here, but can’t help but love the Black Eyed Peas song “Rock that body.” A fun, summer dance song that is perfect for running. The best part is the sampling of Rob Base with the “I wanna rock right now…” – and I KNOW you LOVE that song!!! (No need to splain to the rest of your fans….)
