Help me

25 Aug

What color should we paint our house?

It looks like this right now (minus the green grass and the nicely trimmed shrubbery):

Light gray with white trim.

Here it is in winter:

I know, yawn.  It’s your basic cookie-cutter tract home with the original builder paint.  All light colors.

I was thinking about going totally crazy and maybe painting it darker gray.  Any other suggestions?

My next door neighbor’s house is yellow.  The one on the other side is beige.  We also have a mintish green, a darker gray, a lighter gray (like mine), a tan, and a white house on our block.  Houses around the corner who have repainted have all gone darker and bolder than the original pastelly pallete of the neighborhood.

I’m seriously at a loss.  Help me.

I am LOVING this house right now…color and all!

(as an aside? TOTALLY miss the colorful houses of the northwest…)

We actually have a teal house almost exactly that color just around the corner–one with our exact floor plan. They just painted it last year. I’m totally not adventurous and am afraid of color. (I have no confidence in my ability to select something tasteful and attractive.) My sister who lives in town thinks I should maybe do a dark gray–not charcoal or anything, but something much deeper than I have now.

Green. Any kind of green. I love green. Green is good.

Mine is a sagey green and it totally sold me on the house (plus the wrap around porch) and I think it’s different enough from the tealish one. I loved checking out the fight-the-grey paint colors on the houses on our way to the beach this summer. My parents’ house is I think a sky blue, I guess to remind them what blue sky looks like (hahahaha). It used to be yellow, I suppose for the same reason. I do love a yellow house against the grey though. approximately our green – – though we have white shutters and trim.

Okay, evenitafjord, gorgeous link! Love that house. Pretty much everything about it. Well, the front of it. Don’t know about the inside. Cuz…I didn’t look. Even if I could have…?

I’m a huge fan of both butter yellow and brick red. I think either, with clean white trim, would be so pretty.

I think yellow is out because my next door neighbor’s house is yellow. I love brick red, but I don’t think I could ever be that bold. I’m such a wuss. I’m destined to live a life of mediocrity!

BratzBasher recommends purple polka dots. Or stripes. Or Stars and Stripes Forever. (No, BB, I’m not typing that.)

My girls would love to live in a house decorated by BB. They think my picks are ultra-boring. They’re right.

I thin maroon trim would be nice with that wood nice. And you could go with a light grey w/maroon. I actually lived in a house those colors once…I’d go with a green though if you went with maroon trim.

I can’t stand grey after living in Seattle so far. My dream is to have a house covered in graffiti. Haha.

I’m thinking about a maroonish door.

Your graffiti house would be awesome.

Sorry for the insensible typos I’ve been in the car too long this week.

(and I can vote for at least one other former Jones who would also say-Blue)

I wonder why we like blue houses…….
