So a few months ago I had sent Hollywood some Nana’s Been a Nut Bread mix as a thank you for sharing a recipe, and she offered to send me my very own custom Flaky Friend made from the mix’s special packaging as a thank you for my thank you. (How cool is that?) Imagine my excitement! My very own Flaky Friend! But alas, several weeks went by and no Flaky Friend arrived. I just figured Hollywood was busy, what with life and the blog and the starting of the new business and all.
Well, a few weeks ago I was talking to Hollywood and she casually asked whether or not I had received my Flaky Friend. I told her no FF had arrived. It turns out she had sent my FF weeks before, but it had gotten lost in the mail somehow! I was so bummed! She even showed me the pictures of the finished product she had posted on her special FF blog, which only increased the measure of my bummeditude because it was arguably the most adorable handmade stuffed animal mouse I had ever seen in my entire existence.
Hollywood, being the true gentlewoman that she is, offered to make me a new Flaky Friend if I sent her another mix (for the special material, you see), and I gratefully accepted. It arrived last week. Never (at least not since the arrival of Sir Guster R. Giles—I’m calling him Giles for short) have I been in such raptures over a stuffed animal. Is he not adorable?
Just look at this face:
Now I have been known to say that I need another stuffed animal like I need a hole in the head, and yet they are reliably a favorite gift in my home. So even if you need another stuffed animal like you need a hole in the head, check out Hollywood’s Flaky Friends Etsy Shop. She takes custom orders and she’s also offering free shipping through the end of the month!
But wait—there’s more! Hollywood has generously offered a $25 gift certificate to spend in her Flaky Friends Etsy Shop! You too can have your very own one-of-a-kind-handmade-with-love-by-Hollywood Flaky Friend! You need only visit her shop (be sure to browse through the sold items as well) then come back here and leave a comment telling me which Flaky Friend or Friends are your favorite. (Hollywood’s looking to produce some of her Friends in larger quantities and would like to get an idea of which ones might be the most universally adored.) I’ll also give you an extra entry for mentioning the giveaway on your blog and for every person you refer who also leaves a comment (please ask them to mention you by name). Let’s give a fellow mommy blogger a helping hand with her growing business!
I’ll leave the contest open until Monday, July 28, 7 am PDT, and post the results sometime later that day.
Oh, and any name suggestions for my mouse? I’ll throw in an extra couple entries if I pick your name.
This giveaway is now closed. The winner will be announced by 4 pm PDT.
They are all adorable. I loved all of them, but I think I have to go with the lovestruck penguin. My daughter would love it.
I am totally blank on suggestions for the mouse’s name, though.
Okay, so I know I can’t win, but I just wanted to let you know that I linked to your extremely nice post on my own blog and hope you get some good foot traffic through here!
http://hollywoodflakes.blogspot.com/2008/07/flaky-friends-giveaway.html
Oh, Man, Birdicus and the Irish Monkey are calling my name! Don’t you think Birdicus is the perfect lovey for a new baby boy? I can just see that one being fun all through the years.
I will absolutely post on my blog because I love a good giveaway. Oh, and I really like Percival for the mouse. He just looks looks like a Percival G. Squeeksly.
Love these. A lot.
My favorite at her shop is Lester the giraffe! And a name for the mouse… I think he looks worried about something, so I like the name “Doubtful”!
I’m a big fan of Gertie the Hippo. But seriously all of Hollywood’s creations are awesome! Oh and I liked to you on my blog 🙂 Nothing’s coming for the mouse name…I’ll have to think about it.
Oh! I was going to tell you to name the mouse Lester, but Hollywood took that name! So, maybe Ricky Ricardo. or Dexter. Or Phineas.
I am LOVING that Tofu Thompson Flying Pig. I want it. I need it. So that when my husband tells me I can only have something when Pigs fly, I can chuck my flying pig at him… and then demand!
What a fun fun shop!!!
Yippee! I love give aways. My favorite was the striped Elephant on page 1. I think that you should name your mouse Wordy. Julie sent me, by the way, and I will post this on my blog. Fun, fun!
I like the name Kiki
Ooh! I love the turtles. Turtles are my favorite. And I couldn’t just pick one –I liked them all!
Love this give-a-way! I hope I win.
Doh! Did I ruin this by commenting more than once? Probably. Now you can’t do the random number thing. Sorry!
Name for the mouse: Sir Walter S. Peevishly
That’s all I got. *shrug*
No worries, Cheryl. I won’t be doing the random number thing because some people will have earned multiple entries by posting/referring.
I like the out of shell turtles personally…especially the tie dyed looking ones.
I have loved Lester from afar for some time now.
It’s hard to choose, but I especially love Greg the Shaggy Sheep, the tie dyed and flower-shelled turtles, the penguins, and the elephants. My very favorite — and the one I’d buy if I won the $25 certificate — is BOGART. I love that little blue camel.
Hmm…name for the mouse…I like Barnabas.
I like all of the cute turtles. I like how they come out of their shells. But I’d have to say my favorite is Baaab Robertson the sheep with different colored eyes. Wild and cute all in one! And you better believe that I linked to your blog too baby! 🙂
Shameless cow, Pink Beaver, and One Wiggly Worm, in that order. To be perfectly honest, I love all of them!
I am the sister of flipflopmama and found your blog from her link. I totally love the girl scout turtles.
First of all Julie sent me!
Second of all I should love Lester the Giraffe the most (Dh’s namesake) but I really love the basset hound most, who can resist those pouty eyes and then I love Lester the Giraffe second.
Last of all the mouse looks like a Winston to me. He’s so cute!
I love the Blue Unicorn Stuffed Animal Softie! But there are sooo many cute ones to choose from too!
I’ve also blogged here for an extra entry 🙂
http://bunnymoney9.blogspot.com/2008/07/flaky-friends-giveaway.html
Thanks!
It’s so hard to choose! I’ve been in love with the shameless cow since I first saw her. And the lion. The turtles are awesome. And I love the basset hound’s ears. Seriously, I could spend so much money if I had it… and I don’t think I’d share with my daughter either.
My favorite is the basset hound. He’s adorable!
We are VERY partial to ALL of her little penguin friends around here. 🙂
I think my favorite would have to be the Rainbow Striped Elephant (but he needs a real name!). Runners-up were Svetlana the Purple Penguin (I love her name), Barbara the Pink Beaver (because it’s just awesome that someone made a beaver stuffed animal, PLUS made it pink and feminine, PLUS named it), Sven the Blue Penguin (so Svetlana is not lonely here at the top), and Lester giraffe, because he’s awesome.
I love Julie’s mouse-name suggestion – “Percival G. Squeeksly”, but then Cheryl’s “Peevishly” last name is great, too, and badgergirl’s “Barnabas”… Now that I’ve seen those I can’t think of anything original. 🙂
Oh my goodness, I love Suzie Porker the Jolly pig! So cute!!!
I love the slightly dazed tiger!
For names, I like adding Mc to the beginning of any last names, and also using III, IV, etc. So going off Julie’s suggestion, something like Percival G. McSqueeksly III.
Also, to the woobdog – an Australian tampon company made a commerical a while ago with all these women toting around beavers, having lunch with them, getting manicures, etc. The tagline was something like “Take care of your beaver”. You can probably find the commercial on Youtube. I think it is great!
I love the Lester the Giraffe. So cute!
I love Lester the giraffe and the basset hound! I was looking for a bunny as this is my little girl’s favorite but couldn’t find one. I would name the mouse patch or patches.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I’d have to say Gertie the Good Natured Hippo is my fav. However, I love the elephants too!
My daughter collects giraffes. I thought we had every one ever made, but I was wrong. She hasn’t got Lester! He is fantastic, and very different from anything in her collection.
I think the mouse may be a lady. She looks like a “Mrs. Nesbitt” to me.
Hello, Cute creations! I adore “Greg the Shaggy Sheep, “Gerty the Good Natured Hippo” and the “Basset Hound!” Please enter me in your delightful drawing. Many thanks, Cindi
I love all of the Chip the Cheap Chicks—personality +++. Great site-thanks.
Those are SO cute! I think my favorites are the giraffe, the kitty, and the blue penguin. Adorable! I came here from Flipflop Mama. Great blog!!!
I love the shameless cow and the girl scout turtles! They are so cute!
I think I am in love with Greg the Shaggy Sheep Stuffed Animal Softie Plush…cute!
I adore the rainbow stripe elephant and the girl scout turtles!
I love the blue elephant. Okay, really, I love Gerty, because I want to save her from her heartbreak, but since she has button eyes, that won’t do. I also love Tofu, but alas, he too has button eyes.
As for the name of your mouse, he is clearly Ronald. Or Ronnie, to his friends. He is rather shy, though, because he thinks his ears are too big, so he doesn’t have as many people calling him Ronnie as you might think. He just wants someone to cuddle with, who won’t judge him for his ears. And maybe feed him some gouda from time to time.
It’s hard to pick one, they’re all so cute! Do you mind a whole list? My favorites are Greg the Sheep, Lester the giraffe, and Svetlana the penguin. So fun! Thanks so much!
I think they are all so cute. I couldn’t narrow it down that much. LOL! I really like Kitty McPhee Stuffed Animal Softie Yellow, Chelsea Mouse or Tabbatha the Elephant.
Thank you for a cute giveaway!
Wow, those are so cute! I like Greg the Shaggy Sheep the best.
Call me odd, but I like the nuggets. (greg is cute, but I don’t like the sound of his attitude… 😉
And I think your mouses name might be Walter. Altho I could be wrong, it’s hard to hear him from here. Walter Brodhagen the 2nd. (since the first got lost in the mail…you at least gotta do the 2nd thing.
The Strippy Elephant is so cute!
These are sooo cute. I really like Tabbatha the Lilac Elephant!
Ok, it’s totally impossible for me to choose between Suzie Porker the Jolly Pig and the Bassett Hound. I love them both! They are so adorable!
Wow, guys! Thanks so much for all the kind words about my Friends 🙂
Just so you know, anything with button eyes can be made with child safe eyes as well if you’re getting them for a baby/teether. I just like the look of buttons better even though they are WAY less practical. It’s the artist in me 😉
My vote for the mouse’s name is Nana.
I would pick the blue unicorn if I won! It is hard to choose though, so I might change my mind! I love her stuff!
The mouse’s name is Clementine or Henry.
I came here from flip flop mama’s blog. I liked all the friends but love your mouse and am partial to the pony and unicorn although, well, they are all really cute.
As for a name, in kiswahili a hole is shimu (pronounced she-moo). I kind of like that word and my need for stuffed animals is about like yours so thinking about it if I were to get a stuffed animal I might name it that.
Suzie the Porker is just too much fun. I think she would like to sit on my bed.
Lucky Turtle the Stuffed Animal Plushie Softie makes me smile. I think the mouse’s name should be Iggy.

My grandson thinks the Basset Hound Stuffed Animal Plushie Toy is the best 🙂
I’ve been reading Hollywoods blog for a while and I thing she is so witty. Her idea for the rabbits foot was ingenius. I think my favorites are her frogs……although they’re all so cute, its hard to pick.
I’m completely in love with Sven the Blue Penguin. How can anyone resist that cute look on his face? He’s simply adorable! As for a possible name for your new little mouse firend, how about The Fabulous Rick Pal. You can always call him Fab. Rick (fabric) Pal for short. 😀

Lovestruck the Penguin – SO SO So Cute!!
aw, I like Chip the cheap Chick.
That’s not a girl mouse!! It’s easy to see that it’s a boy; his name should be Mortimer. Mortimer Mouse.
Hollywood’s animals are so super cute! I ❤ Sven the Blue Penguin . I think he must be mine. And your mouse looks like a Niblet. Or maybe Templeton, like from Charlotte’s Web. Hmmm…
My favorite is the Flower turtle! How adorable!
the Vintage Girl Scout Patch Turtle Stuffed Animal Plushie Softie is absolutely darling! and the Green Alien from the Planet Flaz Plush Stuffed Animal Monster is too cute!
